Mela aspires to bring a fresh approach to weddings,

with acute attention to design & detail.

Surabhi Bhowmick, a Textile Design Graduate from the National Institute of Design & her husband Jonas Spinoy, a photographer & interior designer from Belgium met in Marrakech while working for a Belgian design company in 2003. Their love for architecture, design, art and travel soon brought them together to start Mela 15 years ago.

Their first client & friend, Mrs Priti Paul, of the reputed Apeejay group, approached us for her own wedding in Udaipur to Moroccon hotelier Jaouad Kadiri, with a world renowned guest list of celebrities from the business, art, design and fashion world. The brief was to design & detail the space such that guests would want to steal everything. Clients were found walking away with paper flowers in their hair and mehndi giveaway totes full of fun knickknacks they’d collected as souvenirs from this exquisite experience.

The strength of their design work lies in innovation, cutting edge design and fastidious finish & detailing, which skillfully fuses traditional with contemporary using a blend of traditional and modern design techniques from all over the country. Surabhi’s background in traditional & modern textiles & paintings lends a unique sense of colours to each event that resonates of a global contemporary India.

Their latest experiments play with the science of mechanics married to art & sculpture, bringing a 50’ kinetic sculpture, the largest of its kind, to the wedding industry. For the future Méla is developing and offer more sustainable design options for events within the industry.
